With the Toronto Blue Jays set to kick off their most anticipated baseball season since their heyday in the early 1990s, manager John Gibbons and newly acquired ace R.A. Dickey will speak to the media at 11:30 a.m. ET in a news conference that CBCNews.ca is carrying live.
It's been 20 years since the Blue Jays have competed in post-season play, but this year brings heightened expectations to Canada's team after a series of big-name acquisitions in the off-season.
The Jays added all-star shortstop Jose Reyes, along with starting pitchers Josh Johnson and left-hander Mark Buehrle in a blockbuster deal with the Miami Marlins. They also made a splash in the free-agent market picking up Dickey, the National League's Cy Young winner last season, and outfielder Melky Cabrera.
The off-season moves bumped Toronto's salary commitment in 2013 to more than US$122 million, up from $83.7 million at the start of 2012.
It all adds up to a buzz around the Blue Jays not felt since the team captured back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993.
The season kicks off Tuesday evening when the Jays host the Cleveland Indians at the Rogers Centre in a sold-out home opener.
