The San Diego Padres announced Saturday night that Jedd Gyorko, in just his second season as a major leaguer, managed to break the franchise record for career home runs by a second baseman.

Gyorko accomplished this feat with a grand slam in the seventh inning of the Padres' clash with St. Louis. The slam gave him 31 home runs for his career, setting the Padres' new career franchise record.

You read that right. Thirty-one. In a career.

By comparison, there are currently three players tied at 31 home runs for the 2014 season, leading the majors. Ten players hit more than 30 home runs last season.

Gyorko's "record" surpassed the old mark of 30, set by Mark Loretta in 2005 over a three-year Padres career. And now, here is a link to a very sad list of San Diego's all-time home run leaders for second-baseman.
